So as most of you probably know….I recently moved over here from blogging about my Bikram yoga practice. One of the things that I have learned about blogging is that, when starting a new one, it can take a bit of time to find your voice. You have to be willing to play around a bit and change things up in response to what is and what is not working (for yourself and/or your readers).
When I had my Bikram blog, it was perfect for me at that time. I needed to blog about my practice and the lessons I learned from it. But at some point, there’s only so much I can say about my practice. It’s not that I don’t learn new things about myself from my practice (I do every single time I step onto the mat!), but I think I’ve reached a place where I don’t need to write about them in order to process them.
What I do love though is reviewing products that are related to yoga and living a healthy lifestyle. I’ve also noticed that people tend to show up and read those reviews more often than they tend to read my musings about my practice. Given that I love writing the reviews, and am less passionate about writing about my practice, I think there’s a connection.
So, for the time being, I’m going to place the emphasis on this blog to sharing products I have tried out (sometimes I pay for it myself; other times I get asked to try something out). I still love cooking, and so I’ll continue to highlight great recipes from around the web.
Being an academic, I of course ran out to see if someone else was doing this kind of work. I didn’t find anything that did what I had in mind. I did find a site that was all about yoga product reviews, but it didn’t seem like it got very far in its development.
Also, being an academic, one of my primary jobs is to review things and provide feedback. It’s something that we do. So this seems like a better fit.
At any rate, I’m playing around here. For now, there is going to be a switch up on what I emphasize, and I hope you’ll stick around.
